🚀Getting started

What is Memo?

Memo is a helper that lives in your text messages. Tell it where you put something, the way you’d tell a friend. Weeks later, when you can’t remember, ask it. Memo also keeps count of things like rice or batteries.

There’s no app to install and nothing to set up on your phone.

Who can use Memo?

Anyone with a Memo account. Sign up with your email, then link your phone from your account page. Memo doesn’t answer phones that aren’t linked to an account.

Your first 30 days are free, and you don’t need a card to start.

How do I send messages to Memo?

Memo works over iMessage, and over regular text messages (SMS) to +1 365 654 0078. Its iMessage address is [email protected].

Memo’s text number is in Canada, so texting it from outside Canada may not work yet.

Is SMS different from iMessage?

Every SMS costs Memo money, so SMS comes with the plan with SMS, which includes 100 texts a month. iMessage is part of every plan, with no monthly limit. Your free month includes SMS too.

To keep each text cheap, Memo’s SMS replies are short and have no emoji. Long lists get cut, so ask about one kind of thing, like “what tools do I have?”.

After 100 texts in a month, Memo tells you once and then stays quiet on SMS until the 1st of the next month.

💬Saving and asking

How do I save where something is?

Just say it in plain words, for example: The passports are in the red folder, top drawer of the desk

No special words needed. If something is missing, like where you put it, Memo asks, and you simply reply. Moved it? Tell Memo the new spot and it updates.

How do I find something again?

Ask the way you’d ask a person: Where are the passports?

Memo answers from what you told it. If you never told it, it says so instead of guessing.

Will Memo reply to everything I send?

No. Memo stays quiet when you’re just chatting. It only speaks up when you save something, ask about something, or ask it for help.

Can Memo forget something?

Yes. Text something like this, and Memo deletes it: Forget the passports

Does Memo keep track of how much I have?

Yes. Mention amounts as you go, like “bought 2 kg of rice, it’s under the kitchen cabinet”, and later “used half the rice”. Memo does the math, so when you ask, it tells you how much is left and where it is.

When you run out of something, Memo remembers that too, so it can tell you it’s used up.

Which languages does Memo understand?

You can write or talk to Memo in English, French or Chinese. A few of Memo’s standard replies, like the welcome message, are in English for now.

🎙️Photos and voice

Can I send a photo?

Yes. Send a photo and say where the thing is. Memo looks at the picture to work out what it is. If you only send the photo, Memo asks where you put it.

Memo’s replies are always text. It doesn’t send your photos back.

Can I send a voice message?

Yes, in English, French or Chinese. Memo turns your voice into text and starts its reply with what it heard, so you can check it got it right.

How do I send a voice message by text from an iPhone?

On iPhone, voice messages (the waveform button) only work in iMessage. When you text Memo’s number +1 365 654 0078, your messages are green-bubble texts, and the microphone there only does dictation. You have two easy options:

  1. Dictate. Tap the microphone on the keyboard and speak. Your words arrive as text, which works just as well.
  2. Send a recording. Record in the Voice Memos app, tap Share, choose Messages and send it to +1 365 654 0078. It goes as an audio attachment, and Memo listens to it.

If you can reach Memo over iMessage, that’s the easiest way to send voice from an iPhone.

And from an Android phone?

Most Android messaging apps can record audio and send it by text message directly. Send it to +1 365 654 0078 and Memo listens to it.

🔒Privacy and your account

Who can see my things?

Only you. Memo answers questions about your things only on the phones linked to your account.

What happens to my photos?

Memo isn’t a photo album. Each photo is made smaller, and hidden details like where it was taken are removed. Memo keeps one photo per item, and when an item gets a new photo, the old one is deleted.

Are my voice recordings kept?

No. Memo turns the recording into text and doesn’t keep the audio.

What happens when my free month ends?

Subscribe from your account page to keep going. Prices are shown in your currency at checkout.

If you don’t subscribe, Memo stops answering. Your saved things are kept for 30 days in case you come back, and then they’re deleted.

How do I delete my account?

Log in and go to “Delete account” at the bottom of your account page. It deletes everything Memo saved for you, including photos, and cancels any subscription. This can’t be undone.
